Every Captain America: Civil War Character Sorted Into Their Harry Potter Hogwarts House (Part 2)

Welcome to “Every Captain America: Civil War Character Sorted Into Their Harry Potter Hogwarts House (Part 2)!” If you missed the first installment where we sorted Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Falcon, Hawkeye, and Black Panther, you can see which house they were sorted into here.

Captain America: Civil War just dropped on Blu-ray and DVD to the delight of Marvel fans everywhere. The movie was a box-office hit and proved once again that Marvel is totally on point with their plots, characters, and cinematography.

The film was packed with an all-star cast of familiar heroes from previous installments like Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, War Machine, Scarlet Witch, and more, but also introduced two epic new characters: Black Panther and Spider-Man.

We’ve gotten to know these heroes intimately throughout the evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We know their struggles and their strengths, their motivations and their pitfalls. We know they work best together as a team, but that sometimes their differences are too vast to overcome.

But there’s one thing we don’t know: Which Harry Potter Hogwarts house they’d be sorted into. Before we start sorting these characters, here’s a brief reminder of each of the Hogwarts houses and which attributes they best embody.

Okay, let’s get our Sorting Hat out!

War Machine – House Gryffindor

A highly decorated Air Force officer and expert pilot, War Machine is king of the skies. He’s a lionhearted warrior willing to face down the fiercest of adversaries, all while knowing that each mission he flies could be his last. If there’s a fight that needs fighting, War Machine will gladly carry the mantle. 

We first meet War Machine in Iron Man 2, where he steals a suit from Iron Man’s mansion and pilots it back to the military to be repurposed for combat missions. It was a difficult decision to take the suit from Iron Man, but War Machine saw his longtime friend spiraling out of control, and it was only because of his boundless courage that he was able to put his feelings aside and square off against the man in the metal suit. It was a tough fight, but War Machine walked away the victor.

War Machine later reunited with Iron Man to battle Ivan Vanko and his squadron of Hammer Drones. They were vastly outnumbered and outgunned, but War Machine exemplified the very essence of bravery by holding his ground and ultimately defeating the terrorist.

War Machine displayed his bravery again in Iron Man 3, where he was captured by Aldrich Killian and literally burned out of his armor. But War Machine, who was briefly rebranded as Iron Patriot, refused to go down without a fight. He was willing to suffer the extreme heat and even death to keep the deadly tech out of Killian’s hands. But even the Iron Patriot couldn’t’ withstand Killian, who used his Extremis powers to pry open the armor.

What’s interesting about War Machine is his ability to operate both independently and as part of a team. He’s a natural-born leader with a pure heart and a cool head. His courage, bravery and determination make him one of the most lethal Gryffindors.

The Sorting Hat says War Machine is House Gryffindor.

Hawkeye – House Ravenclaw

Cool. Calculated. And three steps ahead. That’s how Hawkeye likes to play things. A former special agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., this master of the bow keeps an eye on the battlefield from his perch high above. 

We first spot Hawkeye in Thor, where he’s briefly featured drawing a bead on the Asgardian god. But it’s not until The Avengers that we really get a good look at Hawkeye and what drives his character.

Guardian of the Tesserect, Hawkeye watches from his nest. After the mysterious object begins to “misbehave,” Hawkeye uses his intellect to deduce that someone is trying to open a portal – Loki. Neither Director Fury nor Erik Selvig were able to connect those dots, but The Hawk figured it out in just a few moments.

Hawkeye consistently displays his wisdom throughout each movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In The Avengers, we discover he was ordered to assassinate Black Widow, but instead he offered her redemption. It was a wise choice indeed as Black Widow later makes an invaluable addition to both S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers.

His quick wit proves to lighten the most stressful situations, but more importantly it helps Hawkeye to stay several steps ahead of his enemies. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Hawkeye is the only one who is able to best both Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, who together make short work of the rest of the Avengers.

The Old Man is wise beyond his years, and most certainly has “wit beyond measure.” This makes Hawkeye a Ravenclaw with razor-sharp talons.

Vision – House Ravenclaw

Potentially the wisest sentient creature on planet Earth, Vision is a synthetically created being powered by the Mind Stone that wields unimaginable power. 

First introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Vision reveals his depth and complexity through his conversations with the Avengers and with Ultron himself. While Vision can’t fully understand humanity, he can see the beauty in their potential and imagination, and believes they are worth protecting.

His wisdom shines through in Captain America: Civil War while explaining to the Avengers the consequences of their very existence. He notes that their “very strength incites challenge. Challenge incites conflict. And conflict breeds catastrophe.” He further breaks it down by giving the Avengers an equation to back up his claims.

“In the eight years since Mr. Stark announced himself as Iron Man, the number of known enhanced persons has grown exponentially,” Vision said. “And during the same period, a number of potentially world-ending events has risen at a commensurable rate.”

Vision is also likely the smartest sentient creature on planet Earth. His Mind Stone allows him to quickly and efficiently download data directly into his brain, giving him access to all the information humanity has ever collected.

Vision’s vast intellect and profound wisdom make him an otherworldly Ravenclaw.

The Sorting Hat says Vision is House Ravenclaw.

Scarlet Witch – House Slytherin

One of, if not the most powerful characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Scarlet Witch roams the battlefield wielding her incredible energy-manipulating abilities. 

First introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Scarlet Witch shows off her mean streak by making short work of the Avengers. Consumed by anger, she lets loose her wrath on the entire team, turning the Avengers against themselves.

She later teams up with Ultron, but ultimately switches sides and joins the Avengers.

We see the full force of Scarlet Witch’s powers in Captain America: Civil War when she briefly battles Vision and drives him down into the Earth with her telekinetic ability. Anyone that can take on Vision is a lethal force indeed.

Scarlet Witch has a dark past to be sure and has no problem exacting her revenge. If there ever was a Dark wizard in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it would certainly be Scarlet Witch, and that makes her a Slytherin.

Ant-Man – House Slytherin

A master thief with a troubled past, Ant-Man is no small threat to those who oppose him. 

In Ant-Man, we find this anti-hero mixed up with the wrong crowd. It’s clear that Ant-Man has no qualms stealing from the rich. And even though he often gives back to those who were stolen from, he’s still a little too comfortable with operating outside the law.

But it’s Ant-Man’s cunning that enabled him to pull off these impossible heists, and it’s his cunning that helped him defeat Darren Cross as the Yellowjacket.

We see Ant-Man’s pride when Dr. Hank Pym and Hope van Dyne begin training him. But he quickly finds out that he still has a lot to learn.

By the time Captain America: Civil War rolls around, Ant-Man has given up his past as a thief and has joined forces with the Avengers, but his cunning and ambitious personality lend themselves to Slytherin.

The Sorting Hat says Ant-Man is House Slytherin… for now.

Spider-Man – House Gryffindor

A brilliant, mild-mannered teenager that finds himself suddenly bestowed with incredible powers, Spider-Man is a web-slinging hero with a courageous heart.

We first spot Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War after Iron Man visits his house in Queens to recruit the Spiderling into the Avengers. But before that, Spider-Man had taken it upon himself to fight crime in the streets of New York. While normally a shy and awkward individual, the 15-year-old Spider-Man displays immense bravery by taking a stand for what he believes is right.

His determination and intelligence helped him develop and construct his own web-shooters, which allows him to quickly move around the battlefield. It’s also clear that Spider-Man is quite determined to make a strong impression on Iron-Man – his role model and idol.

Spider-Man’s courage and bravery to fight crime and stand toe to toe with other superheroes makes this web-slinger a Gryffindor to the core.
