New 'Terminator' to Explain Why the Robot Looks Like Arnold Schwarzenegger

Throughout the course of science fiction history, audiences have seen robots take all shapes, forms, and sizes, but in the Terminator franchise, whoever designs the robots regularly settles for the visage of Arnold Schwarzenegger. With series creator James Cameron slated to return to the franchise, he recently revealed to The Arnold News the reason why the killer robot continues to appear with the same persona.

When asked if Schwarzenegger could potentially ever play an actual human in one of the films, Cameron replied, "Yeah, you got to ask yourself, 'Why did they make these characters look and sound like Arnold?' There has to be a reason." He continued, "So yeah, it has flashed through my mind that there has to have been a prototype. There has to have been a guy who's DNA was harvested from – that they grew the organic outer layer that they grew the Terminator from…and that presumably was a real person at some point."

Considering the impressive physique of the actor, this doesn't necessarily mean the DNA of the robot's creator was incorporated into the machine, but could have virtually been anyone.

Cameron elaborated, "Now, the question is, did that person have some sort of meaning to Skynet on WHY they chose that one? Or was it like a whole rack of Terminators and the one that happened to be the Arnold model just happened to be closest to the door going out to the time displacement center and all the others looked different?"

The filmmaker revealed that this wasn't a new thought for him, but with an absence from the franchise for 25 years, he must begin to question some of the mythology he created in a way he hasn't in quite some time.

Cameron added, "I've asked myself these questions but it's never been resolved…so stay tuned! We're talking pretty seriously now about doing some new Terminator films or possibly a trilogy and you'll just have to see what surfaces in those."

With a new slew of Terminator films set to begin filming in 2018 with Schwarzenegger himself slated to return, we might finally find out how this specific robot was chosen for so many different mission.
