Outlaw country singer-songwriter Jamey Johnson was forced to cancel his show in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Sunday after his crew member refused to disarm before entering the venue.

Fans were surprised to see a note announcing the cancellation on the door of the Myrtle Beach House of Blues, which read "Tonight's artist refused to adhere to our safety and security guidelines and would not enter the building. Unfortunately, tonight's show is canceled," reports The Tennessean.

According to claims by Johnson's band, the cancellation was forced because the House of Blues forbids guns inside. Several members apparently had firearms and refused to leave them on their tour bus.

"I stand with [Johnson] on this," said member Tony TC Coleman. "House of Blues didn't need to treat us like we were terrorists. They put a [metal] detector between Jamey's buses and the stage entrance and the only people coming in and out of his buses was us. His band and crew and we all have laminated stage identification.

"We did not come to House of Blues to be treated like we are going to kill the fans. If someone came backstage to harm anybody you better pray there is a Jamey Johnson type individual around."

Other accounts of the dispute are slightly varying. Melonie Cannon, a member of Johnson's band, wrote on Facebook "No one in our band or crew carried a gun in that building... FYI...Our bus is our home and the House of Blues isn't. We know where guns belong and where they don't."

Fans seem torn on the issue. Some are happy Johnson and his crew stuck to his guns (so to speak), but those planning to attend the Myrtle Beach show were far from pleased.

"Don't bother to keep up with [Johnson's] tour dates," fan Justin Ford wrote on Facebook. "He'll just let you drive 6 hrs to see his show, only to find out that it's cancelled because he refused to follow the venue's safety protocol."

Johnson has not formally responded to the controversy as of yet.
