Derek Fisher Charged With DUI

Derek Fisher former Los Angeles Lakers champion and ex-New York Knicks head coach Derek Fisher has been formally charged with DUI stemming from a crash earlier this month.

If convicted, he found face up to 6 months in jail, but as TMZ points out, this is first first offense, so the sentence would be much more relaxed.

Around 3 a.m. on June 4, Fisher his girlfriend Gloria Govan, a star on Basketball Wives, flipped their 2015 Cadillac in a concrete curb and guardrail. No injuries were reported at the time.

Fisher was driving the vehicle and was given a sobriety test. It was confirmed that Fisher had been drinking at the time of the accident.

"During the collision investigation, it was discovered that Party #1 [Fisher] had been drinking," officers wrote in the incident report. "A DUI evaluation was conducted and Party #1 was subsequently arrested for DUI without incident."

The couple seem remorseful for the incident, and said they are "beyond grateful that we are both OK and no one else was involved."

Fisher was an NBA favorite for two decades, predominantly with the Lakers. After his retirement, he was hired as the Knicks' head coach in June 2014. He was fired from the gig by former coach Phil Jackson last February.
