Writer/Director Shane Black (Iron Man 3) is attempting to bring back the sort of Predator franchise that fans know and love with The Predator, which is currently in production with a cast that includes Logan's Boyd Holbrook in the lead, alongside Moonlight's Trevante Rhodes, Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse), Sterling K. Brown (The People vs O.J. Simpson), Game of Thrones' Alfie Allen, and Edward James Olmos.
There have been a lot of surprising facts about The Predator that have come to light - the biggest being that it's set in suburbia in 2018. There's also the question of how the "spiritual connection" between this new Predator and the original will be established. However, a new fan theory about the original Predator, if proven true, would blow the minds of fans of not one, but two big sci-fi/horror movie franchises!
The Predator / Terminator Connection
A theory that started over at Cracked is now circling the Internet - one that pulls details of both the Predator and Terminator franchises together into one shared universe.
The theory originates from the Aliens vs Predator video game of mid-90s, in which players could select from two Predator hunters and two space marine characters, to do battle with hordes of Aliens Xenomorphs. One of the space marine characters was "Major Dutch Schaefer," who was no-so-subtly based on Arnold Schwarzenegger's character "Dutch" in Predator.
Now, the version of Dutch in the Arcade game was a cyborg, officially described as:
Major Dutch Schaefer: Dutch is named after and roughly based on Arnold Schwarzenegger's character in the original Predator film. He is a human cyborg and has a cybernetic arm with a smart gun mounted on it. His attacks are powerful but slow, and he dashes forward instead of jumping. Dutch is able to powerbomb enemies for massive damage. ScrewAttack included him on their 2011 list of top ten space marines in video games --Capcom
As you can see in the photo above, the character also came with a serial number code: "CDS-170A3." That "CDS" part is equated to "Cyberdyne Systems" - aka the defense company in Terminator that developed that apocalyptic A.I. computer system, Skynet. This brings the the theory around that Schwarzenegger's Dutch was eventually developed into a cyborg by Cyberdyne Systems, and served as the model for the T-800 terminators, which we first met in the original Terminator film.
To finish this all out: the theory goes on to bring this Predator/Terminator connection into the Aliens/Predator shared universe that already exists.
An additional detail from the Aliens vs Predator arcade game has Dutch's full serial code number matching the format of the Android character from James Cameron's other big '80s sci-fi/horror hit, Aliens.
Ash in Aliens comes from "Hyperdyne Systems" and comes with a code ("120-A/2") which translates to "HDS-120A2." As the theory tries to establish, these similar production codes from two different iconic fictional companies prove that Terminator, Predator, AND Aliens all exist in the same cinematic universe.
Some of it is a stretch (after all, this is all based on a '90s arcade game), but it's cool nonetheless!
