'Westworld' Season 2 Confirmed for Spring 2018

HBO is finally spilling the beans on the new season of Westworld!

When the hit sci-fi series finished its first season in 2016, HBO announced that it would return for another installment, but not until sometime in 2018.

This week, HBO gave a little more insight into when the show will return, and it's looking like the hosts of Delos are coming back sooner than we thought. The premium cable network announced that Westworld will return in the Spring of 2018.

Production on Season 2 has just started, so this release date makes plenty of sense. Spring gives Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy at least nine months to fully produce the new episodes.

The spring release also solidifies the idea that Westworld is being groomed to be HBO's next tent-pole series, once Game of Thrones ends. Theoretically, if the spring release date holds, Westworld's highly-anticipated second season would lead right into the final installment of Game of Thrones.

While fans weren't happy about having to wait for over a year to see the second season, the creators had a good reason for the delay. Westworld's first season suffered multiple production delays, since the scripts weren't all written when filming began. These setbacks made production on the first 10 episodes last years longer than they intended.

By waiting until 2018, Joy and Nolan were able to finish all of the scripts before filming began.
