Netflix Reviving Sense8 for Two-Hour Special in 2018

Netflix has been making news lately for a big wave of cancellations, and one of the biggest headlines came when the streaming service axed Lana Wachowski's Sense8, after just two seasons (and a major cliffhanger ending).

Fans of Sense8 have been passionately campaigning for the show to be saved - and even though Netflix initially said that it couldn't continue the show, it seems that position has now been reversed... sort of.

Lana Wachowski posted an update on the Sense8 Facebook Page, announcing that the show will get a proper send-off in the form of a two-hour movie that will air on Netflix in 2018. Check out the official announcement, below:

For fans of the show, this will be a case of history repeating itself; Sense8 was rumored to be on the fence for cancellation after season 1 - and Netflix chose to release a movie-length New Year's special to bridge the gap, until season 2 went into production. As Lana Wachowski indicates in her letter above, the show could end up generating enough buzz and viewership numbers to once again avoid an early grave.

While ratings may not have been massive, Sense8 has a fiercely passionate fanbase - especially within the LGBTQ community. As a pioneering series, it unfortunately had to blaze its trail while through some thick jungle of scrutiny and criticism. It also didn't help that the show had to film in locations all over the globe - massive production costs it never could recoup.

In any event: a two-hour special will be enough time and space to close out the show's lingering mysteries - such as what happened to Wolfgang, and what the united Sense8 squad plans to do about the government agency hunting them, and a rival cluster of Sense8s that rose up to oppose them in season 2.
