The series centers around Wyatt (Gabriel Bateman) and his brothers who are dealing with the loss of their dad, Patrick (Diamantopoulos). Before he died, Patrick wrote a life guidebook for his three sons titled "The Dangerous Guidebook For Boys" hoping that it they would be inspired to live life to the fullest. Unfortunately, this book brings on fantasies in the mind of Wyatt, where Patrick lives on and helps teach him the lessons in the book.

Hayes plays Beth, the widowed wife of Patrick and mother to Wyatt and his brothers. She has to try her best to hold the family together following the loss of their patriarch.
