There Will Be No Existing Characters in 'Game of Thrones' Spin-Offs

If you were hoping to see more of Jon Snow or Daenerys Targeryn in their own spin-off series, you're probably about to be disappointed.

During group interviews at this year's TV Critics' Association press tour, HBO president Casey Bloys talked a bit about the planned Game of Thrones spin-offs that are in development.

While he didn't give a ton of information on the planned shows, Bloys did say none of the characters in the current series will appear in the future. When a reporter asked if that was the case, Bloys replied with "That is correct."

So, the spin-offs will either take place in a totally new location, or at another point in the Game of Thrones timeline. We could easily see characters from the past who have been mentioned in the current series, but that's about it.

This confirmation came after Bloys said that the spin-offs weren't the priority for HBO. The network is focusing on finishing Game of Thrones before going any further with the new shows.

"The number one priority in all of this is the final season of Game of Thrones. I don't want any spinoff or anything that detracts or distracts from that," HBO president Casey Bloys told members of the press during a small group interview at the 2017 summer TV Critics' Association press tour.

"That season will happen, my guess is it would be at least a year before you saw anything else. What I don't want is the attention to be drawn from the final season, which I think is going to be epic and amazing, and somehow have the distraction of a new Game of Thrones airing right after it. I think it's best to separate it, and that's what we'll do," he added.

The next episode of Game of Thrones is called 'The Queen's Justice' and it will air on HBO this Sunday night at 9 p.m. ET.
