WARNING: Major spoilers ahead for the latest episode of Game of Thrones! Read at your own risk...

Game of Thrones is taking the drama to all new heights this season and it is arguable that no character is better at navigating the ever-changing political landscape of Westeros than Petyr Baelish, who is more commonly referred to as Littlefinger. Now that he is advising Sansa Stark in Winterfell, Littlefinger is in the middle of concocting another devious plan.

On Sunday's latest episode, titled "Eastwatch," Littlefinger, who is played by Aidan Gillen, was shown creeping in the shadows luring Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) into stealing an incriminating note penned by Sansa in an earlier season. During an "Inside the Episode" spot, the showrunners of the HBO series spoke out about Littlefinger's purpose within this scheme.

"Arya is very used to being more clever and more stealthy and smarter than any of the people she's up against," executive producer D.B. Weiss said. "She hasn't dealt with Littlefinger for a while so she gets roped into spying on somebody who is actually leading her by the nose to something that he wants her to have."

As to why Littlefinger wants Arya to find the document, he is hoping to thwart a possible bond between the last surviving Stark girls.

"He's looking for a way to prevent this sister-bond from developing even further because the tighter that bond is, the more definitely he is caught on the outside of it," Weiss said.

Littlefinger knows that Sansa is his key to keeping his hopes of possibly sitting on the Iron Throne alive.

"On the Sansa end of the relationship, he is seeing the opening. Now all he needs to do is give Arya cause to display real rage towards Sansa. And he knows full well that with what's going on in Sansa's head – with regards to Arya and how dangerous she is – when Arya starts to act dangerous, and act angry, he knows where Sansa is going to turn," Weiss said.
