Bill Skarsgard Joins Stephen King's 'Castle Rock' TV Series

Debuting as Pennywise later this year in the newest live-action adaptation of Stephen King's It, actor Bill Skarsgård will continue his involvement in the world of the horror author by starring in the Castle Rock series coming to Hulu.

The series' synopsis is as follows:

"A psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, Castle Rock combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King's best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland. The fictional Maine town of Castle Rock has figured prominently in King's literary career: Cujo, The Dark Half, IT and Needful Things, as well as novella The Body and numerous short stories such as Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemptionare either set there or contain references to Castle Rock. Castle Rock is an original suspense/thriller — a first-of-its-kind reimagining that explores the themes and worlds uniting the entire King canon, while brushing up against some of his most iconic and beloved stories."

Considering Skarsgård is starring as the villain in this September's It adaptation, one would think that he could be reprising his role for the series. Rather, the actor will be playing "a young man with an unusual legal problem," according to Dread Central.

Another recent addition to the Hulu series was Melanie Lynskey, who will play Molly Strand, a woman with a rare medical condition who's barely scraping by as a real estate agent in a town where every third property is the site of someone's worst nightmare.

These two join André Holland, who previously starred in the Cinemax series The Knick and the Academy Award-winning Moonlight. Holland stars as Henry, a death row attorney with a unique and complicated history in the town. With Holland's character being involved in the legal world, we can most likely expect him to cross paths with Skarsgård's character.

The It actor isn't the only Stephen King familiar to join the series, as last month it was announced that Sissy Spacek would play Ruth Deaver, the estranged adoptive mother of Holland's Henry Deaver, a retired professor whose fading memories may hold a key to Castle Rock's unsettling past. One of Spacek's most iconic roles was the titular character from Brian De Palma's Carrie, which was based on the Stephen King novel of the same name.

The series is set to go into production next year from Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television with J.J. Abrams, Ben Stephenson, Liz Glotzer, Sam Shaw, and Dustin Thomason serving as executive producers.
