A Terrifying Thinker
Paul Shirey, editor-in-chief at JoBlo.com, had plenty of thoughts about Covenant after the premiere last night.
He claimed the movie was terrifying, bloody, mysterious - All of the things you'd want in an Alien film.
Shirey also noted that the movie was a bit of a thinker, giving fans a lot to "chew on" long after it ends.
More Like The Originals
Fans of the Alien franchise have been hoping for a new installment that would match the tone and essence of the original movies.
The dark, gritty, and violent aesthetic of the first two Alien movies have yet to be matched - until now.
According to multiple people in attendance, the whole movie feels like an ode to Ridley Scott's older work. Don't worry, they mean that in the best possible way.
Less Like Prometheus
Prometheus was made as a prequel to the Alien franchise, so it had plenty of world-building to do. The film had to give the Xenomorophs an origin, explain the creators of the world we already knew, and start detailing how the creatures reached Ripley's ship.
The movie did just that, but it let fans down in the process. Rather than being an action-packed adventure, with fear around every corner, it was a bit of a slow-burning think piece.
Covenant sounds like it has bridged the gap between the two.
