Glen Campbell Dead at 81

Country music legend Glen Campbell has died at the age of 81.

Campbell was a revered singer-songwriter known for many hits including "Rhinestone Cowboy."

TMZ broke the news after speaking with someone close to Campbell's family. He died around 10 a.m. on Tuesday at a Nashville Alzheimer's facility. The family has since confirmed the news on Campbell's official Facebook page.

Campbell has had a long battle with Alzheimer's disease, with his health slowly deteriorating since being diagnosed in 2011.

The late musician was an icon favorite in the country music world. He released more than 70 albums in his long career, which stretched over 50-plus years.

Some of his most beloved classics include "Wichita Lineman," "Southern Nights," "Gentle on My Mind," and "Galveston."

After being diagnosed with Alzheimer's, he recorded a final batch of songs. The last one of those songs, "I'm Not Gonna Miss You," focused on his illness. It went on to win a Grammy for Best Country Song in 2015.

The acclaimed song was featured on the soundtrack of I'll Be Me, a 2014 documentary about Campbell's life and health struggles.

Campbell released his final album, Adios, on June 9. It was recorded back in 2011 and 2012 before his health worsened. Unfortunately, by the time it was released Campbell had severely declined.

"We don't want to sugarcoat it," his daughter Ashley told The Boot. "He has no idea that he has an album out.

Aside from his legendary solo career, he was also an accomplished session musician who played on Elvis Presley's "Viva Las Vegas," Merle Haggard's "Mama Tried" and the Byrds' "Mr. Tambourine Man," among others.

He is survived by his wife Kim, eight children, ten grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers.

His family asked that in lieu of flowers, donations for Alzheimer's research may be made to the Glen Campbell Memorial Fund at BrightFocus Foundation.
