Dukes of Hazzard star Tom Wopat is speaking out about dealing with substance abuse issues following his recent arrest for assault.

The actor's rep gave a statement to TMZ that says Wopat is "taking personal time to address his ongoing struggle with substance abuse. While death and illness in the family, combined with the intensity of his recent schedule, certainly contributed to his misstep, Tom definitely understands that sobriety is the sole course for a successful future."

Last week, the 65-year-old actor pleaded not guilty to a felony assault charge. The incident allegedly occurred on the set of the stage production of 42nd street at the Reagle Theatre in Waltham, Massachusetts. Wopat is starring in the play.

A woman on the set of the play told law enforcement officials Wopat walked up behind her and placed his hands on her backside during a rehearsal on July 23. She also claims he placed his fingers between her butt cheeks.

Wopat was arrested for the assault charge last week. When the police searched him and his vehicle, they discovered two bags of white powder that was believed to be cocaine, Fox News reports.

The court documents show that Wopat said he buys cocaine "in large quantities and uses it over time."

Wopat was released on $1,000 bail and told to keep his distance from the woman.
