Billie Lourd on the Difference Between Her 'Scream Queens' and 'AHS' Roles

Billie Lourd first made her way into pop culture's collective consciousness playing the delightfully deadpan Chanel No. 3 in Ryan Murphy's campy horror series Scream Queens, and the actress is officially set to move into true horror territory with a role in Murphy's American Horror Story: Cult.

While participating in a panel for the new season of AHS at the 2017 Summer Television Critics Association tour in Los Angeles Wednesday, Lourd reflected on the difference between the two roles, noting that her Cult character will allow her to express more emotional depth than her pastel-clad counterpart.

"I do have emotions this time, which is really exciting to me," the 25-year-old said, via Marisa Roffman, adding that her AHS character "is more of a human this time," via Trish Bendix on Twitter.

Lourd also dished on Cult's dark tone.

"This is straight up horror drama," she said of the show. "Definitely left of my comedic side."

Lourd's AHS co-star Sarah Paulson, who was also on the panel, praised Lourd and noted that Murphy is well aware of the actress' talents.

"He knew he had a bag of gold with Billie Lourd and he should put her on every show he ever made," she said.

Lourd added that she's a big fan of AHS, but didn't "lobby" to appear on the show.

"I was a big fan and made that known," she explained. "but I did not lobby, per se."

While it's currently unclear who Lourd will be playing in the horror drama's latest season, fans will soon find out when American Horror Story: Cult premieres on FX on Sept. 5.
