On Saturday, the 50-year-old CNN host took to social media to pay his respects to his older sibling who took his own life in July 1988 at the age of 23.

"My brother, Carter Cooper. Jan 27, 1965 – July 22, 1988. Hard to believe it has been 29 years. He remains in my heart, golden and true," Anderson wrote on Instagram, alongside a black and white image of the two as children.

Cooper's mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, also took to Instagram to remember her son by sharing a series of snaps with the social platform's slideshow feature.

"Not a day goes by that I do not think of him," he said. "He is close to me because he lives in my mind and heart forever."

Carter's untimely death came a decade after their father, Wyatt Cooper, died during a heart bypass surgery.

The CNN anchor and Vanderbilt share in their memoir, The Rainbow Comes and Goes: A Mother and Son Talk About Life, Love and Loss that Carter, 23 at the time, took his own life by jumping off the terrace of his family's Manhattan penthouse.
