When Rosie O'Donnell's daughter Chelsea left home last August and was later found with her 25-year-old boyfriend, an alleged heroin addict, the comedian told PEOPLE the situation was "heartbreaking."
Chelsea then went to live with her boyfriend's family in New Jersey, becoming estranged from her mother in the process.
One year later, O'Donnell has reunited with Chelsea, posting a selfie of the pair on Instagram Thursday to commemorate their reconciliation.
"Chelsea and me," O'Donnell wrote. "What a difference a year makes #hopelives."
Earlier this year, O'Donnell joked in a stand-up routine about having teenagers, PEOPLE shares.
"My teenagers are a nightmare, they're horrible," she said. "I had four teenagers when I decided to adopt a newborn baby. You might ask why. Because I had four teenagers and I needed to remind myself that I actually do love children."
