In case you haven't heard, Psych is making its long-awaited return to television this December.

While promoting Psych: The Movie at San Diego Comic-Con last week, star James Roday took some time to tell us about the upcoming film.

Dule Hill on Returning To Psych, What Fans can Expect from the Movie

We first asked Roday about the references that made Psych famous, and whether or not we could expect more of those in the movie. According to the star, the ever-popular nods and jokes will be there, but they may look a little different.

"A lot of the new [references] are old ones," Roday told us. "I think the fact that we sprinkled in a couple references from the '90s shows some evolution on our part. One in particular, which I won't ruin for you, is musical in nature. You've grown accustom to us championing just '80s music, and in this movie you're gonna get some '90s. I'll leave it at that."

The Psych Movie Has Found Its Villain

Roday also went into the complications of his character, Shawn. We all know that Shawn can be a bit childish at times, and the actor says that the time between the series and the movie has helped the character grow, even if just a little bit.

"I think deceptive growth is the perfect way to describe that character arc. I think he could always be described that way. He always needs to be Shawn, but he also needs to be building a fundamental knowledge of what it means to be a grown up and execute that in his own incremental way. The people that love him get that about him, which is way he's able to get away with it. But I think it's always going to be baby steps."
