How I Met Your Mother may still be returning to TV after all!

The popular CBS sitcom was set to have a spin-off developed titled How I Met Your Dad, but the series was halted in development. Fortunately, the network has found new writers to give the spin-off a second life.

According to Deadline, Fox chairman Dana Walden has said that the production is trying again with different writers.

Producers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger were initially in charge of the spin-off, but their other project — a little-known series called This Is Us — became a hit and they were forced to shift their attention. Once the producers had been promoted to co-showrunners for Season 2 of the NBC drama they left the HIMYM project.

Now, "the studio will try (developing a spin-off) with different writers," Walden said. She continued by saying that his project was starting from square one.

"They will be starting from scratch." Walden added, "It's one that's been slowly cooked. If it's the right idea, the right execution, we'll take that."

With a show that was as popular as How I Met Your Mother, and a Hollywood culture that thrives on reboots and spin-offs, there's a good chance that this project will eventually make its way to TV.

It seems to just be a matter of when.
