Westeros may be getting chilly as Winter approaches, but HBO is just heating up.

On Sunday, the Season 7 premiere of Game of Thrones completely annihilated HBO's previous viewership record.

Game of Thrones had the record going into Sunday night, with the Season 6 premiere raking in 8.89 million viewers. 'Dragonstone' put that number to shame when the episode hauled in 10.1 million pairs of eyes. That's a growth of 27% from the previous premiere.

HBO also brought in another 6 million viewers on same day playback and streaming services. This basically accounts for anyone who watched the show anytime after it aired on Sunday night, or those who watched from one of the apps.

Those insane numbers make the Season 7 premiere the most-watched in the history of HBO, though it's not likely that the record will remain standing next year.

Season 8 is confirmed to be the final installment for the celebrated fantasy series, and it would be safe to assume that its premiere will leave all others in the dust when it comes to viewership.

After the record-breaking affair this week, Game of Thrones returns on July 23 with its next episode; 'Stormborn'. You can watch the preview for the new episode here.
