'Game of Thrones': This One Detail in Jon's Letter to Sansa Changes Everything for the North

When Sansa got a letter from Jon in the Game of Thrones finale on Sunday, she was understandably a little pissed. After all, Jon did just align himself with Cersei Lannister and pledge his undying allegiance to Daenerys Targaryen.

When you look at the full letter however, it seems as though Jon took everything a step further. He denounced his title as King in the North.

The full letter that Jon wrote from King's Landing was released online by the official Making Game of Thrones blog, and it basically said everything that Sansa repeated to Littlefinger in the episode. Jon acknowledged that Cersei and Daenerys were helping him fight the Night King, and that he pledged his forces to Dany as the rightful queen. The letter wrapped up by saying that the duo were on their way to Winterfell.

Pledging his allegiance was one thing but, with just one signature, Jon Snow went against everything the people of the North had decided when they named him king in Season 6.

The letter was signed "Jon Snow - Warden of the North." That's right, he stepped down as King in the North without telling anyone. Instead, he just casually slipped that reveal in at the end of a letter to his sister.

This decision means that the North is no longer independent, as it has been for some time. Instead, all of the people living there now fall under the rule of Daenerys Targaryen.

It'll be interesting to see how this balance of power shifts once Bran tells Jon about his real parents.
