Is a Fan-Favorite Character Returning to 'Game of Thrones' This Season?

As if the penultimate season of Game of Thrones couldn't get any more exciting, it seems that one of its most talked-about characters could be making a triumphant return.

If you haven't noticed yet, there are some major potential spoilers ahead. Continue at your own risk.

After sailing away on a rickety row boat at the end of Season 3, Gendry looks to be coming back to Westeros.

Some fans began to think that Gendry was returning when actor Joe Dempsie was spotted in Belfast, not too far from the Game of Thrones set, while the show was filming last fall. This kind of evidence can be easily brushed off though, as Belfast is a pretty major city, and there's no reason why an actor couldn't go there.

However, fan theories went back into overdrive this week, as Dempsie was present for the Game of Thrones Season 7 premiere in Los Angeles.

The official Game of Thrones Twitter account share a gif of Dempsie on the carpet, telling fans that he had arrived at the premiere.

This could just be coincidence, and Dempsie could have just been coming to the premiere to support his former co-stars. Unfortunately, there's no way fans are going to buy that. With the entire show wrapping up in the next 12-18 months, it's about time to see what ever became of Robert Baratheon's bastard son.

Could Gendry return to claim the throne? We'll find out when Game of Thrones premieres its seventh season on July 16.
