'Game of Thrones' Fan Uses Sword To Defend Woman From Assault

Sometimes you've got to take it back to the days of yore and attack a home invader with a sword.

That's what Game of Thrones fan Mac Dolan did, according to a report from the Chicago Sun Times. Dolan, a software consultant, chased off an attacker who broke into his home and was assaulting a guest.

Dolan previously purchased the sword at Medieval Times with his roommate, and they decided to mount it to their wall.

"I saw the guy standing over her, and she was kicking and screaming," Dolan said to the outlet. "And I just started yelling and running at the guy basically and grabbed the sword that we have on the wall and chased him toward the back stairs."

Dolan said the attacker didn't register what he was doing until he saw the sword in his hand; he swung at the invader and missed, causing him to run out of the apartment while dropping his wallet in the process.

The man was identified as Francisco Chavez, who is being charged with home invasion, attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault, and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Authorities said Chavez also matched the description of a peeping tom they'd been searching for in the area, and are charging him in that case as well.

Assault is not a laughing matter, but Dolan found humor in using the sword to ward off the assaulter.

"It's kind of funny because we have pretty frequent conversations about using the sword if someone breaks in," said Dolan. "We hung it in the wall equidistant between our bedrooms, so whoever gets there first can use it.

"We're 'Game of Thrones' guys," his roommate John Henry Zuercher added.

After being identified, Chavez has been arrested and held without bond for these crimes as well as allegedly committing residential burglary and criminal trespassing, according to prosecutors.

Dolan, meanwhile, has purchased a second sword for his home.
