While the cliffhanger fate of Jaime Lannister may have been the most talked-about moment at the end of the latest Game of Thrones episode, fans have started to pick up on another potential tragedy that we all seemed to overlook.

Is Drogon, the beloved dragon of Daenerys Targaryen, going to die?

While attacking the Lannister army, Drogon was shot in the shoulder by Qyburn's scorpion, causing the dragon to make a sudden landing. This didn't seem like a lethal blow, but a connection to another character makes it seem as though Drogon's injury could be worse than we thought.

Drogon was named after Dany's late husband, Khal Drogo. Like his namesake, Drogon has always been a leader, always there to protect Daenerys and has always been the biggest of his pack. The two have strikingly similar personalities.

The parallels went even further this week.

Drogon led the Dothraki into battle against Jaime and The Lannisters before being shot by Bronn. The injury that grounded Drogon was sustained in his shoulder — just like Khal Drogo. The wound — though it didn't seem life-threatening — was enough to kill Dany's last protector.

Could it take the life of her favorite child as well?

Maybe this theory goes even deeper than a poetic story arc. Dany birthed the dragons in the fire created after Drogo's death. Once he passed on, Drogon grew to become Dany's protector, taking on the role left by the Khal.

There's plenty of magic and mysticism throughout Game of Thrones, so the idea that a part of Drogo lives on in Drogon isn't exactly a stretch.

Whatever their connection may be, it's clear that Drogon is in danger of suffering the same fate as Drogo. Let's hope the parallels between them don't continue.
