The Exorcist is prepping for its sophomore season on FOX, but fans are still reeling from season one's biggest twist. At San-Diego Comic-Con, Ben Daniels (Father Marcus) revealed his reaction when he figured out what secret Geena Davis' character, Angela Rance, was keeping.

(Spoilers ahead, obviously)

In "Chapter Five: Through My Most Grievous Fault," Rance reveals that she knows so much about possession because she's dealt with it before. In fact, her name is actually Regan MacNeil, the possessed child in the original novel/film.

While some fans had no idea the twist was brewing, Daniels revealed he mostly figured it out after reading the first script.

"When we got the first script, I was like, 'She jumps to that conclusion that her daughter's possessed pretty quickly,' " Daniels exclusively told PopCulture.com. "I was like, 'She's been possessed before'

"So I said to Geena when we had some meeting in L.A., 'Have you been possessed before?' and she said 'That's very astute.' Then the showrunner (Jeremy Slater) heard me and went 'Well...' then he told us all," Daniels said.

The case may have gotten the scoop on the twist ahead of fans, but they made sure to keep it to themselves. It was much more fun to watch the fans figure it out as the show went on.

"It was mind-blowing," he said. "And it was great keeping that a secret and watching people go, 'She would never jump to that conclusion that quickly.' All those people did it, and we were like, 'Just wait!'"

FOX's The Exorcist will return on Sept. 29 at 8 p.m CT. You can watch our the full interview with the cast above.
