The seventh season of American Horror Story just got even more twisted.

Creator Ryan Murphy has utilized Instagram as a way to tease the details of the upcoming season, and his latest post has made fans scream with excitement.

On Monday night, Murphy confirmed that Twisty the Clown, the famous killer from the Freak Show season, would be making his return in the new installment.

John Carpenter To Develop New Horror Series For Syfy

Murphy posted a picture from the Season 7 set, showing someone holding an old comic book with Twisty on the cover. The image of the clown is a perfectly accurate depiction of the classic villain, highlighting his bloody suit and spiked hair.

The caption on the photo brought everything together. Murphy simply said, "He's Baaaaaack," confirming Twisty's return.

It may seem odd for Twisty to make a comeback, as he was killed in the fifth season of American Horror Story. With the new season taking place over 50 years after the events of Freak Show, how could Twisty come back around? Well, there are two ideas here.

'It' Star Joins Stephen King's 'Castle Rock' Series On Hulu

The first theory is that this comic is all we will see of Twisty. Murphy has been known to hide Easter Eggs of his popular characters throughout the different seasons, and this comic seems right up his alley.

The second theory is the one that most fans are hoping for, as it's the only one that involves actually seeing Twisty on-screen. If you recall, after Twisty was killed by Mordrake, he was invited to join his band of travelling ghosts. With that in mind, it's entirely possible that Twisty could return from his afterlife if he's somehow summoned, or if Mordrake has a task for him to complete.

American Horror Story's seventh season is set to take place around the events of last November's presidential election. Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Billy Eichner, Billie Lourd, Cheyenne Jackson, Alison Pill, Colton Haynes, and Adina Howard are already confirmed as part of the cast.
