In a tweet, American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy made the announcement, saying, "Thrilled that my talented friend Lena Dunham is joining the AMERICAN HORROR STORY family. Always wanted to work together, and now we r!"

No specific details about her role have been revealed at this time, but it is known that the theme of the season is inspired by the 2016 presidential election.

The sub-title of the season will be announced on Thursday, as first reported by Variety.

Dunham recently wrapped her own show, Girls, which aired on HBO, so this is her first major project since.

The series is reportedly said to be filming, however, as American Horror Story writer/producer John J. Gray confirmed that it had.
