When you're looking to catch a horror movie or compelling original science fiction TV show, the Syfy network has always been a reliable place to turn. This fall, Syfy Films is going to debut the all-new sci-fi thriller Realive in theaters and on VOD.

The film's synopsis is as follows:

In Realive, Marc Jarvis (Tom Hughes) is diagnosed with a disease and given a short time to live. Unable to accept his own end, he decides to freeze his body. 60 years later, in the year 2084, he becomes the first cryogenically frozen man to be revived in history. Marc discovers a startling future, but the biggest surprise is that his past has accompanied him in unexpected ways.

The film is written and directed by Mateo Gil (Vanilla Sky, The Sea Inside). The cast includes Tom Hughes (About Time, London Town), Charlotte Le Bon (The Walk, The Hundred-Foot Journey), Oona Chaplin (Taboo, Game of Thrones) and Barry Ward (The Fall, The Journey). Realive premiered at the 2016 Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal followed by official selections of the FrightFest Film Festival in the U.K. and Sitges International Film Festival in Spain.

Realive hits theaters on September 29 and VOD and Digital HD on October 3.

Another recent announcement from Syfy is that it is currently filming Deep Blue Sea 2, the sequel to the 1999 film starring Thomas Jane, LL Cool J, and Samuel L. Jackson.

The film's synopsis is reported as follows:

"Dr Klaus Van Etten is experimenting on bull sharks, much to the chagrin of Misty and her team of marine experts. The sharks get out, of course, and all hell breaks loose."

With the Syfy production clearly having a smaller budget than the original film, we shouldn't expect to see any characters reprising their roles. This isn't the first time the network earned the rights to a popular creature feature, as they also brought audiences Lake Placid 2, the follow-up to the Bill Pullman and Bridget Fonda film.

This news follows last week's announcement that the network would be working with John Carpenter to develop his horror comic anthology Tales for a Halloween Night into a TV series.
