It's been reported that FOX is currently developing Fear Street, the popular R.L. Stine teen-horror book series, into a series of films.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series is planned to be scripted as three separate films that could be shot back-to-back and then released within a month of each other in an effort to create "binge-ing movies."

Leigh Jeniak, a rising director who shot a couple episodes of the Scream TV series and made the 2014 indie-horror Honeymoon, has reportedly closed a deal to script the films, as well as potentially direct.

The Fear Street series actually pre-dates Goosebumps, however, while it has been very well-regarded, it has not quite matched the popularity of its successor.

Where Goosebumps was aimed at young teens, Fear Street was decidedly more violent and "adult," making it more for the mid-late teen demographic.

All of the stories from Fear Street were set in Shadyside, Ohio, a completely fictional town, and spanned eras from the 1980s and 1990s.

While some characters did make repeat appearances, each book featured a new cast of characters. The occasional cameo from previous characters did give the series a nice cohesive universe concept though, and that could work to the film series' advantage.

From the Marvel and DC films to Universal's new Dark Universe franchise, creating cinematic universes are a big play right now, and if FOX plays this right, they could build one here.
