'Open Water 3: Cage Dive' Comes To Blu-Ray October 10

Thanks to the success of last year's The Shallows, shark cinema has earned a resurgence, like this summer's 47 Meters Down or the upcoming Jason Statham-starring Meg. Another new installment in this string of shark films is Open Water 3: Cage Dive, which will land on Blu-ray and DVD October 10.

Open Water 3: Cage Dive comes by way of director/writer Gerald Rascionato, and co-writer Stephen Lister. It stars Joel Hogan, Josh Potthoff, Megan Peta Hill and Pete Valley.

The film's synopsis is as follows:

"In this intense thriller, three friends from California head to the rugged Australian coast for a cage-dive encounter with deadly great whites. But after attracting a swarm of vicious sharks, their tour boat is destroyed by a massive rogue wave. As clouds gather and darkness descends, the three friends find themselves alone and defenseless, afloat in the chilly ocean as hungry man-eaters begin to circle. With little hope of rescue, they must fight to survive using only their courage."

Sharks have been a staple of the horror genre for over 40 years, mostly thanks to the massively successful Jaws. While many films attempted to capture the public's attention with a spectacle on par with Spielberg's masterpiece, the Open Water series took a much more subtle route.

The first film, released in 2004, was reportedly inspired by a true story. The film chronicled a couple who went on a diving trip who, after an erroneous count by a boat's captain, become abandoned in the middle of the ocean. The two tread water for as long as they can, all while sharks swim ever closer to the duo.

The second film, Open Water 2: Adrift, told the tale of a group of friends who borrowed their boss' boat for an afternoon on the high seas. Following a prank that didn't pan out as planned, all of the friends find themselves in the ocean around the boat without a ladder to climb up to return to safety. Sharks play a minimal part in the film, but it was more an exploration about being virtually inches from safety, while still relatively stranded.

Originally released in Australia as Cage Dive, this film is sure to give you plenty of shark action to sink your teeth into.
