James Cameron Reveals the Villain of His 'Avatar' Sequels

James Cameron has been talking about making a horde of Avatar sequels for years now and fans have been left constantly wondering if the films would ever actually happen.

Well, pre-production seems to finally be underway, and each day is another step closer to more time in Pandora.

Little has been known about the sequels to this point, but Cameron is finally starting to spill the beans about what fans can expect.

While speaking with Empire, the acclaimed filmmaker revealed that the villain of the four upcoming films is one that we've all seen before. Stephen Lang's Colonel Quaritch is set to the big bad of the entire series.

"The interesting conceit of the Avatar sequels is it's pretty much the same characters," Cameron said. "There are new characters and a lot of new settings and creatures, so I'm taking characters you know and putting them in unfamiliar places and moving them on this greater journey. But it's not a whole bunch of new characters every time. There's not a new villain every time, which is interesting. Same guy. Same motherfucker through all four movies. He is so good and he just gets better. I know Stephen Lang is gonna knock this out of the park."

So, despite the fact that Lang's character nearly died in Avatar, he's coming back to wreak havoc on the world of Pandora for years to come.

The first of Cameron's four Avatar sequels is set to hit theaters in 2020.
