10 Best Stephen King Movie Adaptations

In the next few weeks, fans will be treated to two film adaptations of books from horror icon Stephen King. The first is The Dark Tower, starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, and the second will be It -- which sees Bill Skarsgard take on the role of the demonic clown Pennywise, previously played to perfection by Tim Curry.

The trailers from both films have garnered positive reactions from fans, and we're so excited to see them that we decided to take a look back and pick out the 10 best Stephen King adaptations!

There was no shortage of movies to choose from either, with over 60 films based on Stephen King stories currently in existence, making this list one of the tougher ones to narrow down to only ten. One of those movies belongs to our third spot on the list: The Rob Reiner directed classic, Misery.

The movie starred James Caan as author Paul Sheldon and famously earned Kathy Bates an Academy award, shooting her to stardom as Paul's psychotic self-professed, "number one fan," Annie Wilkes.

The film has gone on to be perhaps most well known for the "hobbling" scene, in which Annie uses a block of wood and a sledgehammer to break Paul's ankles in order to keep him from escaping.

In the actual book, Annie instead uses an ax to cut off one of Paul's feet, but director Rob Reiner changed this in an effort to make the film less graphic. Ultimately, the artistic change did very little to keep the scene from being one that shook audiences.
