Ocean's 8 Characters & Ocean's Eleven Connection

It's an Ocean's Eleven Spinoff
This seems to be the biggest point of confusion early on: but yes, Ocean's 8 is a spinoff of the Ocean's Eleven movie trilogy.
Given the name of the lead character in the story, "Debbie Ocean," the connection to the original Ocean's Eleven franchise seems pretty direct and clear: Debbie (Sandra Bullock) is presumably related to Danny Ocean (George Clooney) and shares the family talent for thievery and con artistry.
The Cast of Characters
Ocean's 8 has put together an impressive ensemble of ladies, and now we have the full lineup and the names of the characters they're each playing:
- Sandra Bullock (Debbie Ocean)
- Cate Blanchett (Lou)
- Rihanna (Nine Ball)
- Sarah Paulson (Tammu)
- Anne Hathaway (Daphne Kluger)
- Helena Benham Carter (Rose)
- Mindy Kaling (Amita)
- Awkwafina (Constance)
The Story
Along with the first look at the cast in character, we were also given the first official story synopsis for Ocean's 8:
SYNOPSIS: "The tide will turn as Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) attempts to pull off the heist of the century at New York City's star-studded annual Met Gala. Her first stop is to assemble the perfect crew: Lou (Cate Blanchett); Nine Ball (Rihanna); Amita (Mindy Kaling); Constance (Awkwafina); Rose (Helena Bonham Carter); Daphne Kluger (Anne Hathaway); and Tammy (Sarah Paulson)."
So basically... It's an Ocean's Eleven film.
There Will Be Cameos
People may look at Ocean's 8 and wonder if there will be any direct connection to the Ocean's Eleven movies.
Answer: There will be. Check out the video below for details.
Creative Team & Release Date
Ocean's 8 is being directed by Gary Ross, who is the multi-Oscar nominated director of Seabiscuit, Pleasantville, The Hunger Games and most recently, Free State of Jones.
Ross also co-wrote the script, alongside Olivia Milch, the daughter of NYPD Blue and Deadwood creator David Milch, who is making her feature-film debut. For a lot of fans, there will be plenty of curiosity in seeing how Olivia's talents on the page match up to her dad's.
Ocean's 8 will be released on June 8, 2018.
