Famed filmmaker, David Ayer filed for divorce on Wednesday in Los Angeles citing irreconcilable differences with his spouse Mireya. The two tied the knot on September 26, 2002, and listed the date of separation as July 29, according to TMZ.

In the court filing, the 49-year-old's lawyer, Laura Wasser, indicated that Ayer would be agreeing to pay Mireya spousal support. However, the two reportedly did not have a prenup so there could be financial disputes in future hearings for the divorce.

The former couple shares four children together, between the ages of 8 to 14. Ayer is requesting joint custody of their children.

Ayer's body of work in Hollywood includes a slew of impressive credits on a number of blockbuster hits. As a writer, he penned the scripts for The Fast and The Furious and Training Day.

His directing credits include the Jake Gyllenhaal crime flick End of Watch, Brad Pitt period war drama Fury, and the star-studded ensemble supervillain flick Suicide Squad in 2016.

Next up for Ayer is his Netflix fantasy film Bright. The project reunites him with Will Smith, who plays an LAPD officer partnered with orc cop, played by Joel Edgerton. The film is set in an alternative present-day where magical creatures live among us, two L.A. cops become embroiled in a prophesied turf battle.

Also starring in the movie is Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows actress, Noomi Rapace.
