No matter which way you look at it, 2016 has been a rough year. Even celebrities haven't been immune from the effects of this crazy year. Between what seems like a crazy number of celebrity passings and a slew of celebrity breakups, we're having a hard time keeping up with it all. The year was a freight train that we just didn't see coming.

Celebrities break up just like normal people do — infallible they are not — but this year saw the demise of more than one high profile couple that appeared to be in it for the long haul. Until, of course, they weren't.

From couples like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney, we're looking at the most heartbreaking celebrity relationships that came to an end this year.
