MTV Already Planning 'Teen Wolf' Reboot and Podcast Continuation

Wrapping up its sixth and final season later this summer will be Teen Wolf, one of MTV's most successful series and its first foray into scripted drama. With a fervent fan base desperate for more stories about teenage werewolves, showrunner Jeff Davis is currently working on a reboot of the series and also continuing the current storyline after the series concludes with a podcast.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, MTV president Chris McCarthy explained, "These characters and these stories have hit a peak." He added, "We are talking with Jeff about how do we actually keep that franchise alive. And the beauty of the evolution of media is you can see the series going on through a series of podcasts and then see a resurrection of a new class in a couple years."
Thanks to the anthology series American Horror Story, there's plenty of proof that audiences will tune in season after season to see new stories under the same title. Rather than expecting familiar faces and characters, audiences have begun to trust the brand, knowing a show's title is more indicative of a tone than of a story.

Although there are many details to be worked out with how a podcast would continue to explore that existing storyline, McCarthy is hopeful and ambitious that, if anyone could do it, it would be Davis.
"How do we keep this franchise alive in podcasts, in the spirit of Serial, and then how do we actually reboot an entire new class?" McCarthy ponders. "Because the heart of MTV is around these timeless issues of young people and coming of age, but the timely piece will be the whole new cast, new set of issues and stories to explore through them. With Teen Wolf, we have such a beautiful gem. And when you have a creator like Jeff that is such an amazing partner and the fan base that is hungry for more, we're crazy not to."
Combining the TV show with digital content wouldn't be a first for the series, with the first season having both a companion web series and after show, Search for a Cure and Wolf Watch, making a podcast merely another extension.
While the podcast is planned to start shortly after the current series' finale, McCarthy wants to respect the show by giving fans plenty of time to prepare for an all-new cast.
The MTV president noted, "We want to give it enough time to let the series finale marinate a year or so, and then when we find the right story and the right cast, look to resurrect it."
The final Teen Wolf episodes begin airing on July 30.
