Netflix Orders New 1990s Coming-Of-Age Series, 'Everything Sucks!'

Turn back the clocks, Netflix is taking subscribers back to the 1990s with its next original series.

According to Deadline, the streaming service has ordered a full season of the coming-of-age dramedy, Everything Sucks!. The half-hour series will focus on 1990s nostalgia, as it follows a group of high school students in 1996.

Coming from Ben York Jones (Like Crazy) and Michael Mohan (Save the Date), the series is described as a "quirky, funny coming-of-age story that follows two groups of high school misfits, an A/V club and a drama club who collide in 1996 Oregon."

With the '80s period shows - like Stranger Things and GLOW - ruling social media, it seems like now would be a great time to move forward into the '90s, and that's exactly the mentality of the Everything Sucks! creators.

"Some of our favorite shows of all time — The Wonder Years, Happy Days, That 70s Show, Freaks and Geeks — looked back at bygone eras with 20 years of hindsight," said Jones and Mohan. "We think this is a great time to take a look back at high school and relive the fashion, music, and attitudes of the mid-'90's the way we remember it. Not sensationalized, not watered down; but desperate, heartfelt, awkward, and exciting."

Both Jones and Mohan will serve as executive producers, along with Jeff Pinkner, Scott Rosenberg, Josh Appelbaum, and Andre Nemec. Mohan will direct most of the episodes, with Ry Russo-Young sharing some of that responsibility.

Everything Sucks! stars Peyton Kennedy, Jahi Watson, Patch Darragh, Claudine Nako, Sydney Sweeney, Elijah Stevenson, Quinn Liebling, and Rio Mangini. All ten episodes are schedule to debut on Netflix in 2018.
