The upcoming Castle Rock TV series, which is based on the fictional town created by Stephen King, just earned a notable citizen, with Scott Glenn joining the cast as Alan Pangborn. Deadline describes his character as "a retired Sheriff who presided over some of the darkest years in Castle Rock's checkered history."

For those familiar with the works of Stephen King, you might recognize Pangborn, as he's appeared in both The Dark Half and in Needful Things. The character was played by Michael Rooker and Ed Harris in live-action adaptations of those stories, respectively.

The series is described as a psychological-horror series that spins a saga of darkness and light played out in a few miles of Maine woodland set in King's multiverse. The fictional Maine town of Castle Rock has featured prominently in several of Kings' works, including Cujo, IT and The Dark Half. Castle Rock will dive into themes and worlds that bring the King canon together.

The Marvel's Daredevil and The Leftovers star's casting is one of the more exciting additions, as its one of the first characters announced in the project that wasn't new to the world of King.

Glenn joins Andre Holland, who stars as Henry, a death row attorney with a unique and complicated history in the town, and Melanie Lynskey, who will play Molly Strand, a woman with a rare medical condition who's barely scraping by as a real estate agent in a town where every third property is the site of someone's worst nightmare.

The series has also recently cast King alumni like Sissy Spacek, who starred in Carrie, the first of his novels to be adapted for a movie and Bill Skarsgård, who plays Pennywise in this September's It.

Castle Rock is currently filming and will most likely debut on Hulu at some point next year.
