Man Severely Overreacts After 75-Cent Credit Card Charge Is Declined

Not even being "hangry" can explain this meltdown.

A man was caught on surveillance video attacking a convenience store clerk and shoving cash registers off the counter when his card was declined attempting to purchase a 75-cent bag of M&M's.

In the video released by the Santa Ana Police Department, 42-year-old Daniel Fine is shown attempting to purchase the snack, but when his card is declined, he lunges at the cashier, hitting him in the head before shoving the register and other items off of the counter.

Fine then throws bananas at the other clerk's head and shoves the second register off the counter as another man walks out of the 7-11 with him.

Santa Ana Police Department's Cpl. Anthony Bertagna told KTLA that Fine's overreaction was concerning.

"Based on his actions over a 75-cent bag of M&M's, I'm not sure what his reaction would be to something that's really serious," Bertagna said.

The tirade, which caused around $700 in damage, occurred in February. Fine, who was arrested at a sober living home in Santa Ana in April, plead guilty to battery, vandalism and assault and was placed on three years' probation June 7.
