Champion Hot Dog Eater Joey Chestnut Clears Up If Hot Dogs Are Sandwiches Debate

There are a seemingly endless number of hot topic issues that have caused division in the world, but there is one debate that can finally be crossed off the list once and for all. Competitive eater Joey Chestnut has offered a final answer to the burning question: are hot dogs considered sandwiches?

Chestnut is famous for being the greatest hot dog eater in the history of hot dog eating. He has been described by Major League Eating's website as "the greatest eater in history." At this year's Nathan's Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest, Chestnut ate 72 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Given his impressive credentials, it's fair to say that Chestnut may be the foremost expert on the topic of hot dog eating.

Joey Chestnut says that hot dogs are not sandwiches.

While attending Major League Baseball's All-Star FanFest, Chestnut finally settled the argument.

"You start considering a hot dog a sandwich, and you're like 'oh, because there's carbs around it,' then you have to start, [wondering], is a gyro a sandwich? 'Cause that's kinda like ... no. You have to keep division," he said.

And there you have it...hot dogs are not sandwiches according to Joey Chestnut. So, the next time a foodie friend tries to get into a heated debate over the subject, you can rest assured that the matter has already been settled.

Joey Chestnut isn't only an expert hot dog eater, but also he has achieved mastery in a variety of different eating competitions. He holds 43 World Records including being the Hooters Worldwide Wing Eating Champion in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2016.
