The Fittest Woman on Earth Has a Surprisingly Simple Diet

After finishing in second place for two years in a row, Tia-Clair Toomey won the first place title at the 2017 CrossFit Games. The 24-year-old Australian athlete, a weight lifter who competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics, was named the "fittest woman on Earth" in a photo finish.

Toomey competed in rigorous obstacle events like hay bale clean burpees (you know, like a kettlebell clean but with a hay bale — and a burpee) and kettlebell lunges to take the crown in this year's annual event in Madison, Wisconsin.

Before the final event (the double kettlebell lunges) Toomey held a six-point lead over her competitor, Kara Webb. According to CrossFit's website, as Toomey took her final lunge, she wasn't able to keep proper form, so the judge asked her to repeat the lunge.

"In the meantime, Webb caught up," the website reads. "The two women appeared to step onto the podium at nearly the same time. Toomey lost by nearly two-tenths of a second."

Although Toomey came in second place during the final round of the Games, she was still able to pull out a two-point overall lead over Webb to take the title of "fittest woman on Earth."

Toomey said she went through deep self-doubt over the past year after finishing in second place two years in a row, but drew from her experience to achieve her goals.

"To be honest, you have to think about everyone who's there to support you (and) remember all the work you put in," she said. "(I feel) great, on top of the world."

She celebrated her victory on Instagram, thanking her trainers, friends, family and fans.

"I am still trying to wrap my head around the last 24hours!" she wrote. "What an incredible weekend it has been competing at the 2017 Crossfit Games along side the most incredible bunch of athletes. I love you girls. Congratulations!"

As you can imagine, the athlete spends her days training hard and eating right in order to prep for competitions like the CrossFit Games. She says she eats three or four big meals per day with no snacks, plus a protein shake after a workout.

"I get up at 7 a.m. and have breakfast and a coffee," she told PopSugar. "For breakfast, I usually have oats. I might have an omelette as well, depending on how big my day is going to be."

After breakfast, she'll hit the track to run sprints or do endurance training. If she's not feeling the the track, she'll go to the pool or the gym.

"Before training again in the afternoon, I'll have something with quite a lot of carbs. So I might have rice with some vegetables and meat for lunch. It's all about getting the carbohydrate, protein and fats ratio where it needs to be. I like to be full, especially before I go and lift weights — you want to have that energy and strength."

After lunch, Toomey says she spends three or four hours at the gym doing a variety of exercises, "such as back squats, or I'll use the gymnastic rings with the pull-up bar," she said. "I'll be working with the barbell doing cleans and snatches, then I'll do a workout that will get my heart rate up before I go home and have dinner."

"At the end of the day I like to chill and relax before going to bed. Because I have oats in the morning, I'll try to make sure I have rice at lunch and vegetables at dinner time, so that I'm getting a great balance."
