Lionsgate Releases Terrifying First Look Photo From 'Jigsaw'

The Saw franchise is back, and it looks to be more terrifying than ever before.

On Thursday afternoon, Lionsgate revealed the first image from the upcoming Jigsaw film, and it showcases one of the deadly traps that the victims find themselves in.

The photo shows star Laura Vandervoort in what looks like a pit of quicksand, and she's screaming at the top of her lungs. Judging by the handprints all around her body, one of two things must be true. Either she's been struggling for a little while, or others have already fallen into the suffocating sand.

Official Jigsaw Poster Revealed

Knowing the Saw franchise, both options are probably true.

EW released the image, along with a few quotes about the film from directors Peter and Michael Spierig.

"Bodies are turning up, and they're linked to Jigsaw — or a Jigsaw copycat," says Peter. When asked whether or not the real Jigsaw - who's supposedly dead - would appear in the film, Peter quickly dodged the question. "The DNA of Tobin Bell is all over this film."

Jigsaw Gets Stamped With R-Rating

As for the traps in the new Saw film, the Spierigs were happy to tell everyone that they've got some wild surprises in store.

"We've got some pretty wild traps in the film — we don't shy away from the gore," says Michael Spierig. "It's such a perfect Halloween scarefest. It's perhaps not quite as vicious and more fun, which is something we tried to inject into it. But it's still full of good fun gore, that's for sure. And, on top of that, it's got a really great mystery, and there's very interesting twists. It's Saw for 2017."

Jigsaw is set to hit theaters on October 27, 2017.
