Chester Bennington, the lead singer of rock band Linkin Park, has died by suicide.

The 41-year-old musician was found dead at his private residence in Palos Verdes Estates in L.A. County on Thursday morning just before 9 a.m., according to TMZ. He reportedly hanged himself at his home.

Bennington was married with six children from two wives. The "Numb" singer had struggled with drugs and alcohol for years.

Most recently, Linkin Park released an album titled One More Light. The album topped the Billboard 200 earlier this year. The group released seven hugely successful studio albums with their 2000 debut, Hybrid Theory, being certified diamond by the Record Industry Association of America in 2010, which means it sold more than 10 million copies.

During an interview with Rockmuzine back in March, Bennington spoke on the different sound and personal feel of One More Light.

"All of our albums are sort of personal, we are always very emotional, we prefer to write about internal struggles. The main difference with this album comes from the way things were done before this album and with this album," he said.

"Before I would come, meet Mike and Brad, they will have huge parts of songs done, very mature Linkin Park songs, I'll have some demos written too and we would plunge into it. I would know straight on, that this is the song where I have to yell and scream, and there's another song and so on. But what would happen if on that same day I would come and bring up problems I have with my strong-willed kids or my relationship? And I'll have to tap into something, some experience, to write a song about it."

Bennington was close friends with late Soundgarden frontman, Chris Cornell, who himself died of suicide by hanging back in May. Today would have been the "Black Hole Sun" singer's 53rd birthday.

At Chris Cornell's funeral, Bennington performed Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" for the attendees, according to Daily Mail.
