As a guest on a recent episode of The Danny Picard Show podcast, Sports Illustrated's Justin Barrasso claims that the WWE declined offers to hold both Wrestlemania and SummerSlam at two major venues in Massachusetts.

According to Barrasso, the WWE rejected offers to hold WrestleMania at Gillette Stadium (home of the New England Patriots) in Foxborough, Massachusetts and SummerSlam at Fenway Park in Boston (home of the Red Sox).

It's not entirely clear from these statements whether the Boston teams had a specific year in mind when making their bids for WWE's two biggest events.

WrestleMania 33 took place this past April at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida, and the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana has already been announced as the home of next year's WrestleMania. Meanwhile, this year's SummerSlam is set to go down on August 20th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The WWE traditionally goes all-out in its 'Big 4' PPVs (Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, SummerSlam and Survivor Series). The promotion is known to be very strict about each of and every factor that goes into organizing these major events, with a significant degree of importance placed on the venue at which the shows are held.

Though New England may not have netted either of WWE's largest events for the time being, the company is supposedly considering organizing an upcoming NXT event at Fenway Park in Boston.

The WWE's next PPV presentation Great Balls of Fire goes down Tonight, July 9th, at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
