'Game of Thrones' Director Reveals Jon and Daenerys Sex Scene Details

If you haven't seen it with your own eyes, you've definitely heard about it: The creative team over at Game of Thrones decided that enough was enough and to finally make Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen a couple on Sunday's Season 7 finale.

Fans certainly had an awkward time watching the scene, considering that the audience knows Dany and Jon are secretly related (although no one on the show knew yet and it had never been said out loud), especially because that news came to light during a most inopportune time — in the middle of the couple's long-awaited hookup.

Just as Dany and Jon are stripping each other down, Bran and Sam, who are hundreds of miles away, discover that Jon is a Targaryen. To make matters worse, Snow's parents' history begins to play while the couple gets intimate, taking the creepy vibe to a whole new level.

Director Jeremy Podeswa told IndieWire that he kept the hookup itself relatively tame (in comparison to other GOT sex scenes) so that the "story within the story" could be revealed.

"With Jon and Dany's scene, the important thing for me was that it wouldn't be prurient in any way, that there's a very strong undercurrent in that scene. It was shot very, very simply," Podeswa said. "It's basically just one steady push in shot to Jon and Dany and then that very important look between them at mid-level. And then a one-shot looking at Jon, then looking down at Dany. It wasn't about shooting a big lovemaking scene. Once they're making love, that's the story. There's no reason to kind of linger on that."

He continued: "The real story within the story, was actually what was going on with their eyes and what's happening — there's an understanding between them that even though they know in some part of them that they shouldn't really be doing this, they cannot not do it. There's some element of destiny that's brought them together, and they can't fight it."

Ah, forbidden love. What's a more classic storyline than that?
