A woman in California is suing SoulCycle after allegedly being shamed and seriously injured during her first fitness class at a Beverly Hills location.

Carmen Farias is suing on the basis of negligence after she was allegedly "catastrophically injured" following a fall off her bike and dislocating her ankle. Farias attended the class with some co-workers where Angela Davis was the instructor. Davis is a favorite of celebrities like Demi Lovato and Oprah Winfrey, PEOPLE reports.

In the court documents PEOPLE obtained, Farias claimed that 20 minutes into the class she tried to slow down and take a break when her legs began to weaken. That's when Davis allegedly yelled at her, further shaming her, and saying repeatedly, "We don't take breaks."

Due to what Farias said was an embarrassment, she responded by trying to pick up the speed. "Her legs were shaking. Carmen had to stop the pedals from turning, but she did not know how to stop the pedals," the court documents state.

Farias has further claimed that neither SoulCycle nor Davis informed her or the rest of the class on how to properly use the bike, stop the pedals, or how to remove her shoe from the clip.

The documents say that Farias, unable to stop the bike, fell off to the right and experienced "agony" as her ankle was dislocated over and over again until the pedals finally stopped spinning.

SoulCycle representation told PEOPLE they don't comment on ongoing litigation.
