Let's get one thing straight: We're all in favor of having more frequent sex, regardless of your reason for getting it on. And as it turns out, there are plenty of good reasons: it can strengthen your relationship, boost your immune system and even help you live longer. Not to mention, it's a great way to relieve stress and it feels great.

According to a recent study, there's one more "pro" to add to the list: heart health. The Journal of Sexual Medicine found that those who had sex at least twice a week had a significantly lower presence of homocysteine, an amino acid linked to heart disease that may be responsible for damaging blood vessels. So what's the catch? Only the men in the study seemed to see this benefit from increased sexual activity.

Though the reason for this isn't exactly clear, we can surmise that, as Men's Health put it, "it may be because sexual stimulation in women isn't as dependent on healthy blood flow as it is in men, who need it to get and maintain an erection."

While missing out on this benefit is a major downer for women who want to get down, it's still good info to have on hand. Boosting your partner's heart health is a great side-effect of having a more active sex life, and it's something you both can agree on—which, as we all know, isn't always a given in relationships.

Women still reap plenty of other benefits from sex, both mentally and physically, so there's no reason to be turned off just because you're not increasing your heart health as much as your partner. Plus, next time you get it on, you'll get to feel both sexy and selfless. What could be better than that?
