John Hughes' film Ferris Bueller's Day Off will finally be getting a soundtrack thirty years after the classic comedy came to theaters.

The movie, starring Matthew Broderick and Alan Ruck, came into theaters without an accompanying soundtrack. Although the 1986 teen comedy film was released "in the middle years of a decade dominated by movie soundtracks," as noted by Salon, there was no official soundtrack with it.

"The Breakfast Club soundtrack released the year before had peaked at No. 17, with its theme song "Don't You Forget About Me" by Simple Minds hitting No. 1," recalled Kevin Smokler regarding the era.

Now, thanks to Paramount Pictures striking a deal with La-La Land Records, Ferris Bueller's Day Off will finally have an official soundtrack. Arts journalist who specializes in music, Tim Greiving, reported the news to Salon of the upcoming soundtrack. He mentioned that it has been authorized by Paramount for La-La Land Records, who specializes in movie scores and soundtracks, to move forward in producing a soundtrack along with the movie score later this year.

The authorization for the project has been given, but there has been no information as to the track listing for the soundtrack. The film featured some iconic tunes that will be interesting to see if they make it on to the official soundtrack.

Greiving also mentioned to Salon that "Hughes' son, James, the fim's music supervisor Tarquin Gotch, composer Ira Newborn, and editor Paul Hirsch were all interviewed for the liner notes, which Greiving has been commissioned to write."

There has been no official release date announced, but the soundtrack could be coming as soon as September.

After thirty years there is still more fun to be had with Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Check out the awesome previously unknown secret about the film that Alan Ruck dished on earlier this month.
