Harambe The Gorilla Gets CHVRCHES Song Dedication

While Harambe may be gone, it seems as if the Internet is never going to forget him. There been a tremendous amount of buzz about the controversial killing of the 17-year-old gorilla on social media, and now the music industry seems keen on keeping his name alive.

On Friday at the U.K.'s Reading Festival, Scottish electronic act CHVRCHES dedicated one of their popular songs to the fallen Cincinnatti Zoo gorilla. Harambe was shot and killed in May by the Zoo authorities in order to protect a young boy after he accidentally fell into the primate enclosure, whose death caused the onset of heated social media debates and a vast collection of memes.

During the band's performance at the music festival, CHVRCHES' synth player and vocalist, Martin Doherty, introduced his band's next song with a shout out to Harambe.

"Hello," Doherty said. "This is called 'Under the Tide.' R.I.P. Harambe."

Doherty jammed out on stage to the upbeat song that includes lyrics such as: "I'm watching you run, run from the sidelines. Take in a breath, fill in your lungs. Keeping you alive, no fear. I'll be your eyes, I'll be a lifeline" and "If I can be, I'll be your strength. And it won't be long now. Head up, head up. Keep holding, holding your head up, head up."

The CHVRCHES' 2013 album titled The Bones of What You Believe featured the popular song "Under the Tide," in what was their debut release.
