'Golden Girls'-Themed Restaurant Is Coming To NYC In September

Coming in September, New York City will be getting a 'Golden Girls'- themed cafe. The restaurant will be inspired directly from the Emmy winning TV show that aired from 1985 to 1992, and will be located in the Sofia Storage Building on Broadway between 187th and 188th in Washington Heights.

The Rue La Rue cafe, coming to uptown Manhattan, is being brought to the city by Michael J. LaRue, best friend of the late Rue McLanahan, according to HelloGiggles. McLanahan portrayed Blanche on the popular show.

The cafe will be decorated with memorabilia of the show that once belonged to McLanahan and was passed on to LaRue and McLanahan's son at the time of her death in 2010.

LaRue, who was the executor of McLanahan's estate, told to DNAinfo.com, "When she died, I inherited all of her personal belongings and show business memorabilia." LaRue also told the Washington Blade that McLanahan was a "shopper and saved everything," and also mentioned that she had 13 closets and five other storage spaces that were filled with memorabilia from the show.

Walt Disney Company actually owns the rights to the show, but is "allowing the cafe to manufacture its very own Golden Girls' merchandise using images from the television show."

Betty White, who portrayed Rose on the show, has reportedly committed to come to the grand opening when the restaurant opens to the public. The 94-year-old actress is the only 'Golden Girl' still alive today.

The plot of the show was based around four previously married women who moved to Miami to live out the rest of their "golden years" together. The 4 time Golden Globe winning show also featured actresses Bea Arthur and Estelle Getty.

Eater reports that the restaurant will serve "soups, wraps, salads, desserts, baked treats and wine."
